As a result of a comprehensive multi-year educational facilities master plan, under the direction of the Vision 2020 Facilities Task Force Committee, a new middle school for the town of Westerly was designed by Kaestle Boos Associates, Inc. The new three story, 148,500 middle school houses a grade level on each floor. Each floor features general classrooms, science classrooms/labs, teaching support spaces and special education resource areas. Community spaces include music/band, gymnasium, library/media center, auditorium and administrative support spaces.
The new middle school is one of three projects to be completed under the two phases of the Vision 2020 proposal.
In December 2007 Westerly Middle School was recognized by American School & University® Magazine with a Design Citation for its “well-planned, small learning communities.”
