Naugatuck
High School

Location: Naugatuck, CT
Project Type: Solar Photovoltaic
Roof Replacement
Project Cost: $6.23 Million
Completion: 2009

The roof of Naugatuck High School has been replaced with a 20-year fully-adhered, white reflective PVC membrane roof with integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) panels capable of generating 364 Kilowatts of electricity. Costs for the system installation were defrayed by a grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. The remaining cost was eligible for reimbursement by the Connecticut Department of Education Bureau of School Facilities. It is estimated the PV system will result in a cost savings of over $65,000 in electricity annually and will pay for itself in only 6-7 years. Construction of Connecticut’s second largest non-commercial photovoltaic panel roof was completed in October, 2008 and the installation of the electrical system to the Connecticut Light & Power grid was completed in January 2009.
