Kaestle Boos Associates, Inc.

Location: New Britain, CT
Project Type:New
Project Cost: $2.4M
Year Completed: 1990

Built in 1990, KBA’s New Britain office was built to set an aesthetic and quality standard through which clients could witness the design integrity of the firm. Highlights of the building include the fine wood craftsmanship, combining sophistication and functionality of the central circulation staircase; the light wells, allowing an abundance of natural light to flow throughout the expansive second level office atrium and the lower “garden” level ; and glass-enclosed spaces created private work areas with an open feel.

In 2008, solar photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of KBA’s New Britain, CT, office building. The 34.9 Kilowatt solar array consists of 170 solar panels and is estimated to supply approximately 13.5% of the building’s electrical needs. A grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund helped to defray over half of the total cost of installation. Electricity generated during periods of reduced usage, such as weekends, is supplied back to the grid.
